Shop for Local Produce and Insurance at the Yakima Farmers’ Market

Yakima-300x113This Sunday at the downtown Yakima, WA, farmers’ market, Yakima Neighborhood Health Services (YNHS) staff will be out in force helping to enroll eligible families in the health insurance marketplace. Trained enrollment experts from YNHS and their community partners will be available in this specially-outfitted trailer, complete with laptops connected to Washington Healthplanfinder, to answer questions and help people sign up for health coverage.

YNHS is taking a lead role in helping Washington state residents find, compare, and enroll in health insurance.  The health center is one of ten lead organizations selected by Washington state’s Health Benefit Exchange statewide; they are heading up education and enrollment efforts in two counties in the Central area of the state.

“Yakima Neighborhood Health Services was thrilled to be selected to bring together strategic partners in Kittitas and Yakima counties,” said YNHS CEO Anita Monoian. “Our shared goal is to let everyone in the two-county area know about the new health plans and available financial help that will be available and encourage them to get coverage.”

YNHS is working with some thirty partners across both counties. “We want to make the opportunities for community assistance as broad as possible,” Monoian said.

Since enrollment began October 1, YNHS and community partners have assisted hundreds of consumers in the two-county area, educating them about the insurance options and enrolling them. Several weekend enrollment events have been added across both counties to accommodate the high demand  for assistance. YNHS has trained nearly 100 In Person Assisters, now certified by the state’s Health Benefit Exchange, to help individuals and families.

Thanks to their efforts and those of others across the state, nearly 25,000 Washington consumers have enrolled in health coverage since open enrollment began. An additional 37,000 people have completed online applications.
